(More customer reviews)I left my own review at my own site, but I will post it here as well.
Compared to my Sennheiser HD 595s, they appear to have more "air", the highs are more open. The sounds that "impact" your ears on regular headphones circumvent your ear canals with the Ultrasones. Very very nice. Bass is nice and heavy and thick.
So, are the Ultrasone Pro 2500s worth $429 compared to the $180 595s? Perhaps they are using a "simple" trick by offsetting the driver so that it hits your earframe rather than directly into your ear canal. However, they do sound great. I'd say they probably should be worth $230 to $280 based on sound-quality alone compared to my 595s, however, being able to hear loud, impactful sounds without feeling the pressure is amazing, plus the 2500s have ULE-techonology which reduces low-frequency radiation emitted by normal headphone drivers by 98%. Soo... maybe a better chance of not getting a tumor...
I'll have to test them some more while mastering music because not everyone has these types of headphones such that if I master a song, how do I know that it is not creating too much pressure on someone's ears using regular headphones?
Added:They are useful in mastering if you switch them out with regular headphones and back again, because you can hear the highs much better with the Ultrasones. However, if extra-strong frequencies are creating too much pressure against your ears, you won't be able to tell with these on.So what I do when mastering is to use these mostly due to the excellent overall sound and the reduced EM emissions, and then switch them out to my Sennheiser's to check for unwanted frequencies.I really do like the Ultrasones much and consider the extra $249 over my old headphones an investment in the long run.
