I really like these headphones. Initially my Senheisers sounded better but as I listened to both headphones more over several weeks I came to like the Ultrasone headphones better. The sound did not seem as colored and the nuances more natural. I rarely listen to my Senheiser headphones and in fact have lent them to my brother and have not bothered asking for them back. I like these cans and think you will too over time.

The soundstage on these are great, as that is what they are intended to specialize in. I'm somewhat disappointed by the build quality for a nice pair of headphones though. The comfort is average or less, when compared to the Denon D5000 or even the AKG 702. And the stereo plug feels cheap, and looks like it goes to a 5 dollar pair of phones. But like I have already said, the soundstage is great, and that's why one would get these headphones. Overall frequency reproduction seems overall fine, and maybe just enough color to make it more fun. I would recommend these to people whom want a little impact with their music, or want to watch movies or play games with them as well. I would not recommend these to people whom need to be in a quiet environment, as the music leaks more than any other headphone I have listened to. This is due to the open back design, which allows the greater head and soundstaging. In terms of aesthetics, these headphones are almost cool. What holds them back from being aesthetically cool? The huge logo on the sides, besides that fact that huge logos are lame on high end products, the logo is also lame and plasticy looking. So basically the good color pallet is ruined by a large grey logo. These might be good for a first time high quality headphone, but one can find better deals from other companies. But if soundstage is important, than these phones might be a winner.

Product Description:
Listening to the HFI-2200 ULE will make you think you are sitting in the sweet spot of your own personal concert hall. These open, dynamic headphones use a 40mm gold driver that provides a rich, warm sound with extremely lifelike ambience. And with a detachable cable and soft velour earpads these headphones will envelop you in majesty. S-Logic- Natural Surround Sound:S-logic- uses decentralized driver positioning to utilize the pinna of the ear in the manner it is used in everyday life, reflecting the audio signal off the surface of the outer ear in different directions before entering the auditory canal. This results in a very natural spacious three-dimensional sound.S-Logic- is the only headphone system which includes your entire sense of hearing.Safer Listening: Because the S-Logic- technology does not aim the auditory signal directly down the ear canal but at the pinna, pressure to the ear drum is decreased by up to 40% (3-4dB) for the same perceived loudness. This significantly reduces the risk of hearing damage and ear fatigue - an absolute must if you spend a lot of time in headphones. ULE technology:The ULE technology was systematically developed by ULTRASONE for users who spend many hours in the headphones. All headphone drivers produce low-frequency magnetic fields. In response, ULTRASONE developed a special MU Metal shielding (ULE technology) to reduce the radiation by up to 98% compared to ordinary headphones.Technical Specifications:Open headphone,S-Logic- Surround Sound,Frequency range 10Hz to 25kHz,Impedance 75 Ohm,Sound pressure level 94 dB,Driver 40 mm gold-plated,MU metal bufferboard in accordance with ULE standard,Cable length: Detachable 3m (approx. 9'),6.3mm (1/4) plug with 3.5mm (1/8th) adapter,Weight 292g,Carry bag and demo CD included, 2yr warrantee, www.ultrasoneusa.com.

I liked these allot the sound is great and they are comfy as they are cloth cups instead of leather/vinyl on most other models and they provide a full surround sound with more highs.

I have the 780's which are NOT the proline and are about $150 cheaper and to me look better as well, not a real issue since I wouldn't be wearing these on the streets.

The 780's appear better made. The 750's come with two cords of which plug into the left headphone and it has a great case for storage but the sound of the 780's was fuller, richer and live like.

I tested each and for me the lessor model was better but hearing is very different to each person as well as the styles of music you listen to, or movies and gaming as well. As always amazon is great in all they do, at least in my 500 purchases over the past few years.I returnd the more expensive ones and kept the 780's and some extra cash too.

Ultrasone PRO 900 S-Logic Surround Sound Professional Headphones - Black Review

Ultrasone PRO 900 S-Logic Surround Sound Professional Headphones - Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Ultrasone headphone appears to be made of a very high quality plastic. This is pretty common among headphones made in Germany. My AKG 601 and 701 are made of plastic.I believe that the Beyerdynamic 990, 880, and 770 also have large amounts of plastic in the construction. The Sennheiser 600 and 650 also appear to be made of plastic too.All of these headphones originate from Germany or Austria. They may not look as "expensive" without more metal parts, but if you look on the inside of most loudspeakers, you will see that they are also constructed of some inert, dense kind of plastic or resin. It seems to be less likely to cause unwanted vibrations that effect the quality of sound.

The packaging on the new models comes with a hardshell case that allows plenty of room for the headphones and two sets of detachable cords--one is straight and the other is like a pig-tail.They screw into the headphone. If you are going to use an adapter to change the plug from 1/4" to 1/8" for an Ipod or portable headphone amplifier (always recommended), I suggest the Grado adapter because it has a longer wire that allows the leverage pressure to be off the Ipod jack or headphone jack. The headphones come with an adaptor, but it is the straight kind that puts a kind of pressure on the jack. The headphones also come with another set of earpads.

The sound is really great. The sound is very forward. You get a good sound stage with a real sense of separation of instruments and/or vocals. It sounds like the instruments are placed in different locations (which they are of course).I especially like the sound of live performance recordings. The bass is sometimes so strong that it can be overpowering. However, I have heard a pair that has been broken in.The bass is still very strong, but not overpowering. The first pair of the Pro 900's were straight out of the box with no breakin.I am not sure that I would call these headphones "nuetral."If you want nuetral, check out the Sennheiser 600 or 650 or a number of the Audio-Technica (open backed headphones) earphones which present a very balanced sound. These headphones make a statement--like the so wonderful Grado headphones.

These are really lively and fun, but the bass can be heavy. However, on repeated hearing--especially in jazz, I like the firm, strong bass.In modern jazz (bebop and later), the time is kept on the bass. The bass is critical.

I find myself returning to these headphones frequently.By the way, I also really like the Ultrasone 2500 which has a more balanced presentation, but not quite as exciting as the 900's.I believe that open ended headphones usually do make for a more open, airy, less bassy sound.

All in all, I have to say that I really enjoy listening to them.

Ultrasone HFI-780 S-Logic Surround Sound Professional Headphones Review

Ultrasone HFI-780 S-Logic Surround Sound Professional Headphones
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Firstly, I just want to say that I love these headphones and they are indeed 'different' from other headphones in similar price range. The HFI's come with the Ultrasone's demo CD and OMG!!! You will immediately appreciate what S-Logic can do to 'mimic' natural surround sound in a pair of headphones...you can hear musician's gasping for air, breathing, and other nuances that your 'normal' speakers don't pick up.

Okay, here are some headphones that I own or have tried in no particular order: Audio-Technica ath-m50s, Beyerdynamic dt770, Audio-Technica ath-a700, and others...anyhow, the point is, I would like to say that I know my headphones!!!

Some 'high marks' on these headphones are particularly the Highs and Lows.Highs are crisp and clear, drummers may love this aspect of the headphones as the sounds are very bright...

Low frequencies are somewhat boomy!! These are like mini-subwoofers for your ears...so bass lovers may want to try the HFI-780s cause they do deliver!!

IMHO, the midrange is the headphones 'weakpoint.' I mean, they do not sound all that bad, but unlike traditional headphones, the S-Logic tends to make the midrange, especially, vocals, sound very 'forwarding.'You also may not pick up certain sounds as 'clearly' as 'normal headphones' because of the S-logic feature...it's kinda hard to explain, but if you have an extra pair of headphones without s-logic to compare, you will notice that the s-logic does hinder certain sounds in the mix...

Comfort: 2/5...these are dead-right uncomfortable!! Give it about 30 minutes and the headphones will consume your ears as well as your skull! Really I should've rate these phones 4/5. I really wanted to like these headphones, but after long listening sessions, my ears are not only sweating, but also got very sore!Besides comfort issues, these are very 'bright sounding' headphones...I've heard some pro-musicians mixing with them, but I can see how S-logic may throw off your senses when mixing down. That said, these may have some 'coloring' in your sounds, but like everything else, you just gotta learn your equipments to see what works and what does not.

If you desire a different kinda headphone with great sound, then these are great and worth the money!

P.S. I prefer the sounds of my Audio-Technica-ath m50s over the HFI-780s...I feel like I've found the perfect under $200 headphones (M50s)...
but, I decided to keep the HFI's because they really do compliment my M50s and I like the S-Logic for certain things like movies, drums, etc...
the bass on the HFI-780's is just a tad bit 'better' than the m50s...and the highs on the 780's are also slightly brighter than the m50s....take your pick!

Pioneer HDJ-2000 Reference Professional Dj Headphones Review

Pioneer HDJ-2000 Reference Professional Dj Headphones
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
As an owner of a pair of HDJ-1000's and a happy owner at that, I was excited to purchase this upgrade. First off, sound: the detail in all brands of music- electronic especially- is apparent from the start. There is clarity not present in the HDJ-1000's and that is partly due to the 2nd aspect of the headphones: their fit. These headphones enclose your ears, as opposed to pressing right up against them as the HDJ-1000's do. The design of the HDJ-1000's is solid; however, for long spans of listening or monitoring audio/DJ'ing, they do get uncomfortable. This new pair are a vast improvement because the earpiece surrounds your ear and use memory foam and a "protein leather" to add a bit of plush to the whole affair. As a result new design is easy to wear for hours on end.

So, these are great headphones, but the price point is rather high... and that is because of the build quality. These headphones are constructed almost entirely of metal, a magnesium composite as said by documentation. The build quality is unheard of in the industry, these are not delicate studio or DJ headphones, these are the highest build standard I have ever seen in a pair of headphones period. They can travel with you, get dropped by you, tour with you and they will hold up to it.

These are the best headphones on the market for their reproduction of audio and the audio components are enclosed in a construction that will ensure these headphones will be with you for years.

Please enjoy.

Product Description:
The ULTRASONE DJ1 PRO headphones are geared for professional DJ applications where their sealed-back construction will help to attenuate distracting ambient noise. The accentuated upper frequencies of the DJ1 Pro may prove especially beneficial to DJs seeking to keep on top of of hi-hat & cymbal cues or track their scratch/mixing synchronicity while working multiple turntables or mixing sources. Their full bass response helps to approximate the deep bass of dance music or hip-hop production styles. The mid-range response is perhaps just slightly recessed which gives the overall sound a hint of discontinuity that serves to emphasize the lower and upper parts of the sound spectrum. The seal from external noise is good, making these excellent headphones and a good choice for club DJs.

I left my own review at my own site, but I will post it here as well.

Compared to my Sennheiser HD 595s, they appear to have more "air", the highs are more open. The sounds that "impact" your ears on regular headphones circumvent your ear canals with the Ultrasones. Very very nice. Bass is nice and heavy and thick.

So, are the Ultrasone Pro 2500s worth $429 compared to the $180 595s? Perhaps they are using a "simple" trick by offsetting the driver so that it hits your earframe rather than directly into your ear canal. However, they do sound great. I'd say they probably should be worth $230 to $280 based on sound-quality alone compared to my 595s, however, being able to hear loud, impactful sounds without feeling the pressure is amazing, plus the 2500s have ULE-techonology which reduces low-frequency radiation emitted by normal headphone drivers by 98%. Soo... maybe a better chance of not getting a tumor...

I'll have to test them some more while mastering music because not everyone has these types of headphones such that if I master a song, how do I know that it is not creating too much pressure on someone's ears using regular headphones?

Added:They are useful in mastering if you switch them out with regular headphones and back again, because you can hear the highs much better with the Ultrasones. However, if extra-strong frequencies are creating too much pressure against your ears, you won't be able to tell with these on.So what I do when mastering is to use these mostly due to the excellent overall sound and the reduced EM emissions, and then switch them out to my Sennheiser's to check for unwanted frequencies.I really do like the Ultrasones much and consider the extra $249 over my old headphones an investment in the long run.

I use this headphone to watch movies in my bedroom (full theater setup)and it feels comfortable and sounds great.

Great dynamic range and they are so nice that you forget you have them on, as long as you are sitting up - if you plan on lying down with your head on a pillow, you may feel them slightly as with all headphones.

I don't know about the radiation they claim other headphones emit and they shield against.

Pricey, but you get what you pay for 8-)

I can't say enough good these about these headphones.I have a small music studio and I've got somewhere between ten and fifteen pairs of headphones around at any given time, but these are the best I've used yet.I've had mine for about four years, and they sound just as brilliant as they did after I'd first burned them in.

They don't sound like most headphones -- the drivers are meant to simulate the way your ears were meant to handle incoming audio, so they're actually off-center, shifted towards the front of your head, so it's more like wearing perfectly-aimed speakers. They sound big and open and aren't nearly as fatiguing as many larger sets, and they're light enough to wear for hours without much notice.

All in all, an incredible investment -- would absolutely buy again if ever damaged or lost.

I saw a few DJs wearing these more and more as i toured clubs. I had to check these out after being a Sony fan for so long. These mainly caught my eye when I saw AvB wearing these at a gig, a guy who cares about the quality of sound.

With that being said I tested these out. I originally had the Sony v700 phones but was a little disappointed with the highs. The lows were great, maybe a little too much bass, but decent quality sound. When I finally got my hands on these I was stunned that they were far superior!! Everything about these is WOW! The more you turn these things up the better it gets. The highs are crisp as can be and the lows are as accurate as they should be. Side by side these shamed the Sony's! Other than the outstanding sound the build quality is just amazing. There is rubber around the cans to protect it from breaking, the cord comes off, which is replaceable, and the headband is ALL leather. Not fabric underneath like the Sony's. The chrome look on the side as well as the look of a Technic's turntable makes other phones look dull. These also come with a black leather carrying pouch that actually fits the headphones and some. The Sony's come with this weak pearl looking bag that's way too small for both the phones and the cord; my cord was getting tangled.

I guess the best way to describe these are True-To-Sound. When blending two tracks together you can get an honest preview of what the track will sound like when played to the crowd. No more bass being too high or too low.

So if you're looking for the ultimate headphones look no further. These things will be on your head forever.

Pros: Superior Sound, Sturdy, Style, Leather Caring Case, Detachable Cord.

Cons: ummmm still thinking.........
