I bought this as a gift for my husband & it looked great just out of the box.Within 2 months,he had to tape the thing together with electrician's tape & one of the batteries had burned out. After 6 months, he'd given up on it all together when the remaining battery became too hot to wear near his ear.Our recommendation is - stay away!

Able Planet Clear Harmony Active Noise-Canceling Headphones Review

Able Planet Clear Harmony Active Noise-Canceling Headphones
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
These are excellent headphones, with unbelievable bass(read-accurate).

As equalized they are not particularly accurate though-no doubt to the intention of having them used in noisy environments.Though lacking a documented frequency curve, I would guess it has a pronounced dip in the upper midrange to lower high frequency region, combined with a slightly heavy midbass band.No doubt many people will find this exciting, I am sure this was done again to compensate for an expected noisy external environment.

I am a sound engineer, and I have been looking for very high quality noise reduction headphones for mastering purposes.I suspected when I first auditioned these, that with a little tweaking, I could get them "perfect".

In mastering, one of the biggest problems is dealing with any extraneous noises that may "mask" details in the recording you are working on.traditional headphones simply cannot block all of this noise out.You would be amazed at the noise that creeps into your audtioning that you aren't aware of.The headphones do the finest job of removing this noise that I have ever heard. It is simply amazing.I never realized, even in a controlled listening room, just how much noise was present. In silence with the headphones powered off, then on, I realized I could hear my breathing!Yes, even the smallest amount of noise can effect the quality of music, and how wonderful to have almost everything eliminated.

As stated earlier I had to adjust my eq when using these for mastering, involving listening to hours of reference recordings to get it right, but I got there.

Now I have to say I almost listen exclusively to these headphones for all my audtioning.I have B&W speakers for my reference-anyone who knows anything about speakers, know these are the best, and I still prefer my headphones.NOW this is primarily because of the noise elimination, you simply will not believe the details in music that are buried beneath a noise floor that you don't even perceive.

I can even plainly hear differences between 16bit and 24bit when I am mastering! Its almost frightening.

One last thing.they are VERY comfortable.mastering can often take hours, and its wonderful to have a pair of cans that you can leave on without any ear pain.

Highly recommended.I will be happy to write another review with the supplied eq settings in the future if anyone is interested.

Product Description:
Able Planet made its mark in the portable audio field at the 2007 International CES trade show, where its Clear Harmony active noise-canceling headphones won an Innovations Design and Engineering award for high-performance audio. Since then, the Clear Harmony headphones have won wide acclaim from consumers and experts alike, who rave about the phones' ability to eliminate almost all background noise while offering superior sound quality. Released in tandem with a pair of sibling models--the True Fidelity and Sound Clarity--the Clear Harmony headphones are ideal for everything from iPods to home stereos to portable DVD players, with full, rich sound that shuts out such extraneous sounds as airplane engines, bus motors, and background conversations.

The Clear Harmony headphones come with a hard-shell case and several audio adaptersAs the high-end model in Able Planet's noise-canceling line, the Clear Harmony headphones offer slightly more sophisticated speaker components than the Sound Clarity and True Fidelity models. As a result, they're the best choice of the three for audiophiles who value a robust bass performance and aren't intimidated by the higher price tag. The Sound Clarity phones, by contrast, aren't quite as bass intensive but still boast the same rich clarity and noise-reducing performance as the Clear Harmony headphones. Price-sensitive listeners or people with hearing aids, meanwhile, will likely find the True Fidelity headphones more to their liking. Not only does the True Fidelity model cost less, but it also emphasizes the upper and mid-range frequencies more than the other two, helping hard-of-hearing listeners better enjoy the full audio spectrum while they listen to music or news radio.
Linx Audio Technology
Although the speaker components differ, all three headphones share Able Planet's patented Linx Audio technology. Originally developed for a new generation of top-of-the-line hearing aids, Linx Audio technology alters the audio signal to increase the intensity of higher-frequency harmonics. This makes it easier to hear words, music, and sounds in the higher frequencies where clarity is often lost, while also ensuring that speech and other high-frequency sounds are not smothered by bass tracks. Able Planet compares the results to the difference between hearing a "C" note on a piano as opposed to a "C" chord. The "C" chord, which sounds richer and more complex, demonstrates the impact of adding harmonics to the audio signal.

Linx Audio technology and standard audio sources

Obnoxious co-workers driving you crazy? I sit right next to a loud-mouth and now all I hear is my Ipod or CD. I also listen to books and podcasts and they all come in crystal clear.

At first, the sound is a bit tinny, but once they burn in they just sound better and better everyday.

I bought them refurbished and saved [...]bucks. I would have gladly paid full price because they are so good.

The refurbishing company completely rocked. I had my cans within days!

Headphones are a very nice pair with excellent sound. Overall balanced sound in bass, mids and highs. Connection to bluetooth is effortless. Used on laptop via a Sennheiser BD300USB and on LG Touch via bluetooth. All controls are accessible. Also used on Ipod Touch 3G. Controls did not work and Ipod bluetooth had static and wander when placed in pants pocket so I purchased Sennheiser BD300i transmitter for Ipods. This solved all problems with strong reception, full control and sound actually improved. The BD300i also gave me full controls from my Nokia BH905 bluetooth headphones. These phones are lighter and more portable than the Nokia 905s. Very good purchase. I do have to admit they are like many have said, a little tight. I have carefully bent them open more slightly, but after a couple of hours they begin to feel like a vise on your head.

Sennheiser MM 450 Bluetooth Multimedia Headset with Noise Cancellation (Black) Review

Sennheiser MM 450 Bluetooth Multimedia Headset with Noise Cancellation
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am not sure where to start!

I own several Sennheiser products including the HD 580, HD 590, HD 600, HD 650, and PXC-450s.

Since I am using my smartphone (Nokia N900) more & more and it works well with bluetooth, I decided to try and replace my TWO year old Plantronics 590A.

The main reason for the purchase of the MM 450s was the "noise-canceling".

Well, after several days of use including in work areas with a lot of "voices" in the background, I have given up on the MM 450s. They sound great but the noise canceling doesn't work very well. I can hear other people's conversations quite clearly when I am in a phone conversation with noise-canceling on (I thought I had it off)!

The MM 450s have also disconnected from my Nokia N900 and Nokia N97 quite often (I have never had this problem with my Plantronics 590s which I currently use all day (+10 hours)).

IF the MM 450s were ~$250, I would keep them because of the great sound... but for $450, I want great sound + noise canceling.

So my set of MM 450s are going back to Amazon!

UPDATE 01/16/2010:

I replaced the MM 450's with my 2nd choice, the Nokia BH-905s! After several days of using them, I think they are almost as good as the MM 450's and the price was only $209.00 delivers (much better than the $450.00 for the MM 450s).

Comparison between both:

Sennheiser MM 450:
------------------
+ Fold up smaller for travel.
+ Sound is best I have heard for bluetooth.
- Price
+ Battery is user replaceable
- Case is CHEAP
- Battery life with noise canceling on was about 10 hours.

Nokia BH-905:
-------------
+ Price is around $200 if you shop around.
+ Case while not small is very good quality (headphones won't get crushed in a travel bag)
+ Battery with Bluetooth + Noise Canceling lasts around 18 hours in my couple of days use.
+ Controls are better laid out (easier to use) than the MM 450s.
- Battery is NOT user replaceable.

Both models:
------------
+ Both have top notch build quality
+ Both are very comfortable for long term use.
+ Noise canceling on both work when playing music.
- Noise canceling only so-so when in phone conversations (when there are periods of quietness). This is probably to be expected since both headsets are NOT over the ear.

In summary, my choice came down to price for what I got.

I am extremely happy with the Nokia BH-905s

Bose QuietComfort 2 Acoustic Noise Cancelling Headphones Review

Bose QuietComfort 2 Acoustic Noise Cancelling Headphones

First of all, let me say that I resisted buying the Bose QuiteComfort 2 headphones for a long, long time.I travel a fair amount for business, and had been looking for a pair of noise cancelling headphones for those long plane rides, but I didn't like the $300 price tag.I bought and returned a number of the cheaper Sony alternatives after finding them dramatically inferior.A business colleague had the Bose headphones, and I borrowed them for a test drive. There really isn't a comparison.Turn on the power and the ambient noise really does melt away, whether you have music playing or not.I now use them to review and edit audio files on my laptop when I'm flying, watching DVDs, as well as mowing the lawn while listening to my iPod.I never noticed the pressure that an earlier reviewer mentioned, but after reading their reviews it is there. However, it's never caused me any discomfort.Really, I have nothing bad to say about these headphones.

Shure E2c-n Sound Isolating Earphones (Black) Review

Shure E2c-n Sound Isolating Earphones
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have used the Shure e2c earphones (the previous model) for about 2 years now.Impressions:

(1)The standard rubber plugs are not comfortable, and don't give very much noise isolation. The foam plugs are very comfortable and really seal out the noise.Be prepared to be grossed out by all the earwax you didn't realize you still had in your ears.

(2) Sound quality: 8/10.Not studio monitor quality, but very very good.

(3) Isolation: 10/10.Seriously.Use these on a flight and you'll gladly take a seat next to a screaming infant.Only problem is that you see the flight attendant's mouth moving as she asks you if you want a Coke or 7up, but you won't be able to hear her.

(4) When you first get them, you'll try putting them in your ears without success.Only after about the third try, all of a sudden the foam thingys go all the way inside, and you say, "So THAT'S how you put them in!"After that, piece of cake. You need to compress the foam just like you do with regular foam earplugs.

Shure E2c Sound Isolating Earphones Review

Shure E2c Sound Isolating Earphones
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Like many people, I was tempted by the good reviews but reluctant to pay so much for a pair of tiny earphones. Finally, almost 2 years ago, I bought a pair.

Like all of the other reviews here state, the Shure E2c's sound GREAT.They are very balanced, and let you hear the subtle details of your music, making the music almost come alive in your head. They turn your MP3 player or Discman into an audiophile-quality stereo system.

The E2c blocks outside noise by forming a very tight seal in your ear.In contrast, "noise canceling" earphones, such as the popular ones by Bose, do not block outside noise from reaching your ear, rather they add their own electronically generated noise which is supposed to cancel out the outside noise.I've never had good results with the various noise canceling headphones I've tried; plus, they require batteries to generate the noise-canceling noise. The E2c's block noise without batteries, and without adding any artificial noise or discoloration to your music. It works very well.I especially appreciate it at gym, on the bus or subway, and on a plane.(Warning - PLEASE don't wear the E2c's while driving or bicycling or any other time that safety requires your full attention!)

The build quality of the E2c's is very good - the cord and plug are thicker and sturdier than competing earphones. For 2 years, I heavily used and abused my E2c's, especially at the gym.Literally hundreds and hundreds of times, I've plugged and unplugged them into my various MP3 players, hastily wound and unwound the cord, and tossed them into my gym bag, usually without using the protective case that comes with the E2c's.Despite the very good build quality, my heavy use led finally to a short:when the cord was wiggled in a certain way, the sound on the left side would briefly go out.

I went to Shure's website and saw that they have a 2-year warranty.I sent my E2c's to Shure for repair, hoping it would be covered by warranty, but prepared to pay if Shure felt the problem was due to wear and tear (because, in fact, it was). Two weeks later, I received from Shure a BRAND-NEW PAIR of E2c's - they decided the problem WAS covered by the warranty, and wanted me to have a new pair rather than repairing my old ones!!!

This is more than I expected, and will make me a repeat buyer of Shure products!I especially appreciate this level of service given the lackluster support I've received from so many other companies.

Product Description:
Shure's E2c in-ear headphones are tiny, lightweight, and designed to sonically outperform most ear-bud-style headphones. The E2c's unique, relatively affordable design comes from Shure's years of collaborating with professional musicians. With high-energy drivers in distinctive enclosures, the E2c produces high-quality sound with excellent isolation from background noise.
The E2c's speakers are constructed with studio-grade components, producing exceptional audio clarity. Their in-ear design, using supplied flex sleeves, naturally blocks background noise. This permits lower listening volumes in loud environments--critical in safeguarding your hearing during performance or other activities. No batteries or extra equipment are needed for sound isolation.
Because every ear is different, E2c earphones come with 3 pairs (small, medium, large) of flex sleeves and 3 pairs (small, medium, large) ultra-soft flex sleeves to ensure a personalized fit. These disposable foam sleeves gently compress to fit in the ear canal. Once in the ear, the foam expands to form a tight seal. Once tightly sealed, the sleeves hold the earphones firmly in place.
The E2c's cables pass behind the ear--out of sight and out of the way for comfort and discretion. Weighing only 1 ounce, the E2c is lightweight and comfortable enough for any portable listening application. The set comes with a soft, stylish, compact, and zippered carrying case, which allows for an easy, tangle-free way to store your earphones.
What's in the Box
Earphones, 2 triple-flange sleeves, 3 pairs (small, medium, large) of flex sleeves, and 3 pairs (small, medium, large) ultra-soft flex sleeves (kit 90XC1371, with cleaning tool), a soft carry case (80B8232), a user's manual, and warranty information.

Sennheiser PXC 450 NoiseGard Active Noise-Canceling Headphones Review

Sennheiser PXC 450 NoiseGard Active Noise-Canceling Headphones
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I compared these headphones side-by-side with five other noise cancelling headphones: Bose QC2 & 3, JVC NC250, Audio Technica ANC7, and Sennheiser PXC-250.I was in the market for a noise cancelling headphone because I travel a lot and I wanted to be able to watch movies or listen to music in relative isolation. With the ipod earbuds, you have to blast your ears in order to compete with the airplane's engines and I want to preserve my hearing. My main criteria were sound qualifty, noise cancelling, and comfort. All three were very important and I didn't really want to compromise on any of those categories. The only headphone that excelled at all three was the PXC-450.I disqualified all but the PXC-450 on the basis of out of the box testing.

The JVC was disqualified right away on the basis of its cheap build quality. It does not fit snugly on your head, it is very loose. The slightest movement of my head and the earphones would slide around on my ears.Because of that these headphones offered zero passive noise cancelling.Sound quality was okay but nothing special. These headphones never really merited serious consideration.

The Audio Techicas are one of the most popular headphones on Amazon.I read the reviews of this headphone extensively, and most people rave about these headphones. The only criticism of them I saw was sound leakage.People complained that when you listen to these headphones, people around you can hear what you're listening to.They were right. It really is a shame because other than that flaw, these are very good headphones. The sound and noise cancelling is amazing considering the price. However, as I was buying this for use in very close quarters (airplane travel), I didn't want to have to worry about bothering people around me.

The PXC-250 sounded amazing.I couldn't believe such small headphones could sound so good. However, the battery wand I felt got in the way a bit and I just didn't think the noise cancelling on these on ear headphones was as good as the other more expensive headphones. The 250s had another odd problem in that very slight movements would cause the earpads to rub slightly on your ear. This rubbing created a noise that would reverberate inside your ear that was very noticable if you were watching a movie or listening to softer music.

When I was testing the Bose and the PXC-450, comparing them to the other headphones I tested, it made me realize that noise cancelling technology must just be expensive which is why if you want a quality noise cancelling headphone, you have to be willing to shell out some cash. The Audio Technicas are by far the best of the cheaper NC headphones, but the Bose (particularly the QC3) and the 450 really stand out from the pack.

The Bose are very good headphones, but they have some issues that I just couldn't get over.First, I don't like the way Bose headphones sound. They push the bass into your face and the mids and highs sound muddy. Most of the reviews of these headphones mention these issues. The QC2 got very warm and I could feel the heat radiating inside on my ears and it was not comfortable.

The QC3s are really amazing. They are on ear headphones, yet they had the best noise cancelling of any of the other headphones I tried. The earpads are made of a material that just kill sound.Without even turning the earphones on, you are immediately immersed in silence. However, in addition to the sound quality issue, there is something about their noise cancelling function that creates a pressure on your eardrum. This pressure bothered me enough that it was hard to ignore. If the PXC-450 did not exist, I would have gone with the QC3 and just sucked it up, but I was glad that I didn't have to.

Finally, the PXC-450.For me, these were the perfect headphone and I just fell in love with them and didn't have to think very hard about which ones to keep.

Bass.I read a lot of reviews and a lot of people complained about a lack of bass on these headphones. When I first put these headphones on, I admit that I was a little let down because it seemed to me like they were very weak. Then I realized that I needed to adjust the volume control on the headphones.I basically turned the volume on the headphones all the way up and just adjust the volume on my ipod. With the volume issue fixed, my concerns about the bass went away. These headphones do not have as much bass as Bose. However, that's because Bose changes the sound from the way it was intended to push the bass forward. If you like a lot of bass, these headphones might not be for you. However, the bass is definitely there.Just listen to Pon de Replay (Rihanna) or Pass that Dutch (Missy Elliot) for a demonstration of how good the bass is on these headphones.

Sound Quality.Moving past the bass to sound quality as a whole, these headphones are in a different league.I mean, I am hearing details in songs I have heard dozens or even hundreds of times and never noticed. Background singers that before were lost with all of the other sounds can be heard clearly on these headphones.

Noise Cancelling. These headphones have a tight fit, which gives them a lot of passive noise cancelling. They are not so tight, however, to become uncomfortable.Combined with the active noise cancelling, and these headphones are *almost* as good as the QC3s.I feel like the QC3s were a little better at cancelling the higher frequencies, but I think that is why they have the pressure on the eardrum problem.I didn't feel any pressure with the 450.The slight advantage the QC3s have on noice cancelling is more than outweighed by the 450s superiority in sound quality and comfort.

Comfort.Despite being snug, the 450s are very comfortable. The material that the earpads are made of is very soft and I quickly forgot I was wearing them on my flight. The headphones are very big--much larger than the on ear QC3s.However, because they are snug they don't slide around and they really do melt into your head after a while. Also, they don't get hot like the QC2s did.

Portability.Because they are bigger, they are slightly more difficult to manage than the Bose. However, they fold up quite nicely and their case, though larger than both of the Bose cases, is still rather small (and light!).

In the end, once I tried the 450s, there was really no way I could settle for any of the other headphones I tried. All of the other headphones had too many flaws and the 450s were near perfect.Oh, I should mention that I listened for the "ticking sound" that other reviewers complained about in the right earpiece and there was absolutely nothing.Either those reviewers had defective units or Sennheiser has fixed the problem.

It is unfortunate that whoever did the physical design for these headphones chose such a goofy folding design, because if it weren't for that, these would be excellent headphones.

The sound quality is excellent. The bass belies the small size. The bass may even be too strong for many, but it is quality bass, which is to say that it is reasonably uniform over the bass frequencies, and without the muddy sound that typically accompanies drivers that are underdamped. The frequency response is very uniform over the full audible range, and there are no obvious resonances or peaks anywhere. The noise cancellation circuitry works as well as any noise cancelling headphones that I've ever used or listened to.

Notwithstanding all that, I still can't recommend these headphones, because the folding design is goofy and highly annoying. If you study the picture, you will see that the hinges that allow it to fold on each side, are not oriented at right angles to the band. The hinges are set at an angle, so that instead of folding straight, one side folds toward one the front and the other side folds toward the back. There was no reason to do this, because the earcups are easily small enough to fold up within the band and still close the band most of the way. The intent was that the two earcups also rotate, so that they rest against each other face-to-face. They won't quite do that in the way that you would expect, because the pivots won't allow them to rotate far enough for that. It works better if you rotate the cups the other way, so that the backsides of the cups rub against each other. But it is still just goofy and annoying. Each and every time that you use them, you will look at it and wonder what in the world possessed someone to do this this way.

The stretchy sack that comes with it is just barely large enough to hold the headphones alone, much less the separate module. The two plug adapters just toss into the sack, and sooner or later they will fall out onto the floor of an airplane or train or whatever, never to be seen again.

The cord is ungainly, mostly due to the excess length of the section between it and the headphones. The headphones are able to be much lighter as a result of the separate module, but thus far no one has figured out a good way to do this. Because of the extra length of the cords, you can sort of it configure it however you like, by shortening one or the other of the two cables. You can find or make a small spool of sorts on which to wind the extra cord. I reduced the length of the cord between the headphone and the module to less than half what it was originally, so that it it works well for when the module is in my shirt pocket. The other option would be to use small wire ties and make it as though the headphones and the module were both connected into the plug.

The headband is also uncomfortable. The pads on the two points where each half of the metal band terminates with the other part sliding through, are much to hard to be comfortable. I wondered why this was different from the similar Koss headphones, so I compared the two. The Koss headphones have a much thinner pad, and the surface under the pad is completely flat. AKG chose to incorporate a rim on the four sides of that little square, with a recess for the pad. In effect, the greater thickness of the pad was made necessary by that recess, which was put there, ostensibly, for the pad. The recess is not needed, and were it not for the recess, the pad itself would not need to be as thick or as firm. I replaced the pads with some softer foam, and I added a short length of cloth-covered neoprene to the underneath of the metal band.

PANASONIC Noise Canceling Headphones RPHC300 Review

PANASONIC Noise Canceling Headphones RPHC300
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
For many, the gold standard in noise reduction headphones is the Bose Quiet Comfort 2 (QC2) and up until this point, there really hasn't been a real competitor.Until now.Cynics might call the RPHC300 a QC2 knockoff, but where is does follow the Bose lead, it does so with good reason.Performance-wise, the Panasonic is very good.Subjectively, noise cancellation is on par with the Bose, although the 'noise floor' (the hissing you hear when the electronics are turned on) is seemingly lower (better) on the Bose than Panasonic. No matter once the you turn on the music or movie you won't notice the hissing on either. In my opinion the noise cancellation performance of the 2 is equal.

Comfort-wise, the Bose is the better of the 2.The earcups are a tad small on the Panasonic, so if you have larger ears you may find the RPHC300's a bit confining. To me (I think I have larger than average ears) it's not a big deal, just a nuisance. The Panasonic does have a fairly high clamping pressure which on a long flight may lead to some fatigue but thanks to soft cushions on the earcups it isn't a big deal.Compared to the Bose, however, they are a bit less comfortable.

Sound quality is very good but bass is lacking on the Panasonic for my taste. The Panasonic's do have very large 40mm speakers but they seem to lack 'punch'.I'm not looking for teeth-rattling bass, just a little more.Otherwise, the RPHC300 are very good - just not as good as the QC2 but worlds better than what the airline will offer you and far better than the other noise cancelling headphones I've tried.

Both headphones share a fold-flat design, detachable input cable, and a carry case that makes transporting the headphones and, say an iPod, very easy. One important note, be sure to pack a spare batteries.Listed operating time on one AAA battery is a typical 17 to 35 hours, but the unit won't provide any sound with the noise reduction in the off position (or with a dead battery).

These are my 3rd pair of noise reduction headphones and the one I like the most.Considering their street price of $125-135, they're an exceptional value compared with the $300 Bose QC2.

Noisebuster (NB-FX) Noise Canceling Headphones Review

Noisebuster Noise Canceling Headphones
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
These headphones are good and they impressed me the first time I used them. But after using them more than a few times, I am noticing a few things that I do not like.

1) Like others have already mentioned, they aren't terribly comfortable. After a long flight, yourt ears will likely be red and somewhat tender. But since NOT wearing them may mean you are deaf or crazy after ambient noise, it may be a fair trade-off.

2) When you turn on the noise cancellation, the headphones also amplify the sounds coming through the ear pieces. I think this is misleading. When I first purchased them, I thought "wow, the noise cancellation is so effective that it seems like my music is louder". Well, the music IS louder. Yes, the ambient noise is reduced, but the music is also louder so it makes you think the noise cancellation is more effective than it really is. When I turn on the noise cancellation, I would prefer only the noise to be canceled. If I want to turn up my music, I will do it myself.

3) When noise cancellation is on, there is a very faint and high-pitched "whoop whoop whoop" noise in the background (about 4 whoops per second). When your music or movie is turned up fairly loud, you won't hear it. But during a quiet passge in a movie or in music, you definitely hear it. It can be annoying.

So there you have it. These headphones are good, but they would be great if these issues were resolved. Reason #1 may be user-specific and everyone's comfort may differ. But reasons #2 and #3 should be address from a technology standpoint.

Product Description:
NoiseBuster electronically cancels 18-20 of irritating background noise so you can enjoy peace and quiet or enhanced clarity of music with reduced distortion. Try it on an airplane to reduce engine din and enhance the sounds of in-flight entertainment. It's also great for use with exercise equipment, while commuting or mowing the lawn. Background noise degrades the quality and clarity of music in two ways. First, it masks certain tones in the music, making the sound unbalanced. Second, in order to compensate for noise, people tend to overamplify the music, causing distortion. NoiseBuster solves both problems and therefore delivers the utmost in music clarity when used with portable audio devices.

Koss QZ-2000 Active Noise Reduction Stereophone Review

Koss QZ-2000 Active Noise Reduction Stereophone

I fly 100k/per year, and happened to sit by a young lady from Japan about 3 years ago who let me try her Sony noise reduction headset. I was surprised how effective it was and how much noise and stress you are exposed to when you are flying. I immediately tried a Brookstone noise reduction headset I got in the next airport, which I used with my portable CD player - and was surprised how much it contributed to arriving more comfortable, relaxed and effective. However, it was bulky, heavy enough to hurt my ears after being worn for 30 minutes or so, and began to come apart. I tried the Bose NR headset - which is great - but still a little bulky and heavy. This year a got the Koss QZ-2000 - and it's the one to get. It works as well as any of the others, but takes less space in your luggage and is so comfortable you can wear it from London to San Francisco - no problem. The combination of the QZ-2000 and my Compressor Personal Jukebox (now I don't need to carry CD's) means I have relaxing noise reduction and my choice of music anywhere.

I should start this off with saying, I have not tried the products that these Logitechs are directly competing with, mainly the Bose Quiet Comforts.

The noise cancelling feature is amazing. At work there is a large air conditioner on the ceiling above me at work that emits a constant hum.If I put the headphones on with noise cancellation, this is all peacefully drowned out.If I was using other headphones, I would need to turn up the value to cancel it out, leaving me with a headache.I'm sure the noise cancelling will come in to play even more when I use them on an airplane.

For comfort these are also very nice.Super soft ear pads and very lightweight, probably some of the most comfortable headphones I have ever worn.

Price compared to other headphones is high, but compared to other noise cancelling headphones, is a very good price.

They come with a bigger square carrying case that holds the headphones, airline adapter, ipod, and a battery (in case yours goes dead).

Denon AH-NC600 Advanced Noise Canceling In-Ear Headphones Review

Denon AH-NC600 Advanced Noise Canceling In-Ear Headphones

Made of cheap and thin plastic. On/Off button is so loose that it rattles. Battery compartment door really difficult to open. It's so flimsy and ill-fitting that I almost broke it trying to open it for the first time. Tried noise cancelling effect on a turbo-prop plane, on a normal jet plane, and on the train. There is some minimal noise reduction but it comes at a price: The noise gets replaced by a powerful hissing that sounds as though you suddenly switch from your MP3 player to a radio with bad reception. I don't expect the stunning noise cancelling effect that my Bose QC3 has -- but still: Absoultely disappointing. Not worth the money at one thenth of the price. Would have given 0 starts if possible.

Jabra C820S Active Noise Cancelling Stereo Headphones Review

Jabra C820S Active Noise Cancelling Stereo Headphones
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've looked and tried nearly a dozen so-called active noise cancelling headphones and was tremendously disappointed by all of them, except the Bose, which I cannot afford. Then I saw the Jabra and since they make the best Bluetooth headsets, I figured, let's try it...I can always return it.

Somewhat to my surprise, the quality was outstanding: the noice cancelling does exactly that and there are no irritating hissing sounds etc. The audio quality is absolutely great and the set comes in a beautiful case.

I have now used it for about 40+ hours, most of which in airplanes and am still on my first battery (it's rated for 50 hours).

Last week I swapped with a Bose QC2 that the guy in the seat next to me was wearing and we did a little testing. Our conclusion was that the Jabra was slightly better in noise cancelling (but Bose was very good too), that both were equal in sound quality and that the Bose was slightly better in comfort (but the Jabra was very comfortable too).

So for $150 less I'll take the Jabra.
